Today marks the Winter Solstice or Yule ❄ The s Today marks the Winter Solstice or Yule ❄ The sun is at the lowest point in the sky for us in the Northern Hemisphere which means the shortest day, and longest night of the year. There are lots of ways to celebrate the return of the light. We've made a list of our favourite ways to mark the solstice: 🍺 Make some Wassail. This traditional, warming drink is made with apple cider and spices and is perfect for sipping on solstice. A drop of @kintyredistillery's Spiced Rum would be a perfect addition too. 🕯 Bring light into your house. Turn the big light off and enjoy some cosy candlelight instead. 🥧 Cook a feast. Prepare a comforting meal with seasonal ingredients to enjoy with family and friends. 🖊 Set some intentions for the coming months. It's a great time of year to reflect on the past months and to think about what you want to cultivate in the new year. 🔥 Burn a Yule Log. Add a large log to the fire to symbolize the returning strength of the sun. If you're in England, oak is traditional but here in Scotland we prefer birch. Don't forget to keep back a small piece to start next year's Yule fire with.

Don Don and Peter awake before 5. Looking at their stockings. We dressed them up for tea. Don Don in my clothes. Peter as a nurse and Fairie in Don Don’s kilt. They showed the servants themselves after tea. Aunt L. gave Donald a Jaeger waistcoat and self a piece of lace. Mrs. McNab a knife and fork in one. Donald gave me Regimental brooch and an extra pearl for my necklace. I gave Donald a frame with his silver badge. 1919 26 Dec (Fri). A most terrible day of wind and rain. Donald, Don Don, Peter, Fairy and I motored to Sperasaig School with the presents for the Xmas tree. Then we had our sandwiches and cut up the cakes etc. 22 children and 10 mothers came.
